The Ninja Knitter

Posted in General at 10:58 pm by royalempress

Not only can I knit, I can bake (angry) cupcakes too. You like? I like.

I can also take out anyone who asks me if I’m crocheting when I’m knitting or knitting when I’m crocheting!

Poor guy. He didn’t even see it coming! Too bad I can’t move this fast when I’m knitting. Ha!

Ok ok so I was a ninja only for Halloween, but what the heck… it was fun πŸ™‚ Don’t sleep on my skills. I may not pack nun chucks with my projects but my needles can be just as deadly!

Aside from creeping up on people’s cubicles at work, what made this ninja the happiest today was the box I received from my SP. Lookie lookie:

Thank you SP. Ninja likes very much!

I hope your Halloween was just as fun as mine. I’m ready for Thanksgiving now. Although I can’t wear this costume again (yes, I had that much fun), I’m looking forward to all the grub I will eat. It’s making me hungry already.

Until next time.

I’ll be making these to take to work for Halloween:

Kraft Food’s site has great recipes. Quick and painless. Just how I like it!

Distractions are key

Posted in General at 9:53 pm by royalempress

Dealing with a loss is hard so I look for ways to remain sane. I knit, I cook and I meditate. Some days, I don’t know what else to do. I could cry, but then my eyes get puffy and I look like I was in a 3 way fight.

So I make sweets.

And I knit some more… and drink coffee.

Brooklyntweed’s Noro Striped Scarf inspired me to put these 2 beauties together to create my own.

Meet Noro’s Aurora (w/ glitz) and Silk Garden Lite.

These two together have proven to be more than a great choice.

If you ever decide to make this scarf for a lady who likes a little colour and glitz, I strongly suggest using these 2 yarns. I used colour #2015 in Silk Garden Lite and #6 in Aurora. You may be able to see the subtle sparkles of green in the photo above. Just enough shine to be classy and avoid over kill.

This will be my mom’s Christmas gift. Thank goodness she doesn’t read my blog….I think πŸ™‚

No worries, the fam and I are coping. By His grace, we’ll be just fine.

A little humour…

Have you ever considered doing this? I hope not (for his sake)!

Hi, My name is Royal…

Posted in General at 12:48 am by royalempress

and I’m an addict.

For the SP11 contest, we were asked to display our stash. I like to call it my organized confusion or the fiber closet. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry or to be ashamed or proud of my collection. I justify it by thinking “I actually use the yarn to knit so it’s not so bad, right?”

My second [sage] Ballband “Warshcloth” from Mason Dixon modeling with flowers from my garden

I knew I had a problem when I graduated from storage containers to shelves in a closet but I was still in denial. I try so hard but I can’t stop adding to it. I love all the vibrant colours and textures but my word. Will I really knit it all? I have enough to last me quite a few years. Look at it! It’s overflowing!

Note my recent obsession with sugar/peaches n cream nicely stored in a former blanket bag.

Here’s the story about how this collection came to be:

Me: Have you seen the new colors by Peaches n Cream?
Beginner Knitter Co-worker: No. Which color is it? Did you see it at Walmart?
Me: It’s called Morning Glory. It’s on Ebay [link inserted].
BKCW: I like that one!
Me: I can’t find it in stores and it’s only $1.50 on the Elmore site [link inserterd].
BKCW: They have a lot of colors I like for the bibs and warshcloths (from Mason Dixon). I’m writing a list.
Me: We can put our order together to save on shipping.
BKCW: Ok. I’ll give you the money for it tomorrow.
Me: No problem. I think our order will be out of control πŸ™‚ This is going to be fun!
BKCW: Like you need more yarn. lol….neeeeeddd morrreeee sellllffff controllll!!!! I’m weakeninggggg!

Needless to say, we ended up ordering about 30 balls of Peaches n Cream to join the current stash of 25 per person we already have. You like how I showed BKCW the seductive ways of yarn by adding links of the vibrant colors into our im at work. Come on. I can’t be an addict alone! What did you say? I need help? Yeah..I’ve been trying to tell y’all that lol!

I have to make the time to post pics of what I want to sell on Destash *sigh*. Although I don’t want to part with most of them, I know I have to. Maybe sometime this week I can start my yarn diet. It will be hard, but I know I can do it *praying*.

Idle hands

Posted in General at 9:04 pm by royalempress

There’s never a dull moment around here. If I’m not knitting, I’m cooking, cleaning, combing Lil’ Miss’ hair, ironing clothes for work and on and on. I had to stop and take a few shots of the knit related goods. Like the little pig in the blanket shot above. I really enjoyed knitting the Ballband from the Mason Dixon book. It’s a quick knit and very rewarding because of the colour combinations. I think I went a little crazy the other day at Hobby Lobby. I bought insane amounts of Sugar n Cream. Since Peaches n Cream seems to be hard to find, my co-worker and I have decided to order it from the website. Like I need more yarn in the “yarn closet”. *sigh* I need to post a few things on Destash to help make room for more stuff πŸ˜€ You can see my work on Ravelry. Yes ladies and gents, the empress has arrived πŸ˜‰

Speaking of more goodies, look at what my SP sent me:

I’m so honoured to have yarn hand dyed just for me! I love the feel of it too πŸ™‚ I may make a nice little scarf or maybe even a hat. I haven’t made one of those in a while. The tea is a plus. My recent love affair with flavoured coffe must slowly dwindle away. I will go back to my first love, tea, with the help of the special flavours she sent. I also love the book which is not in the picture; 50 Baby Booties to Knit. I have quite a few babies to knit for so this is perfect!

Speaking of perfect, I have to share these photos from my friend Edju’s wedding. It was PERFECT πŸ™‚

Edit: A few people have asked me about the first wedding pic. The photographer asked us to pose as if the diamond was so big and shiny that we had to cover our eyes from the glare. I was the one that was asked to hold her hand. I love that pic! The photographer’s picture is obviously much better. I’ll see if I can get a copy to show you guys πŸ™‚

Wish me luck!

Posted in General at 10:16 pm by royalempress

If I answer these questions and get picked for the random SP 11 drawing, I may win something great. Maybe a little genie to help me finish my sad fo’s. Wishful thinking never hurt. Here goes….

1. What is the one knitting accessory you could not live without?
Knitting needles.

2. If you’re heading on vacation, do you take knitting with you? If so, how much and what type of project?
Of course I do! Something small like a hat.

3. Where have you traveled to that you’d consider your favorite spot?

4. What is your favorite knitting book at the moment? Do you own it?
Finishing Techniques For Hand Knitters

5. Do you listen to podcasts? Which is your favorite(s)?
Not yet. I have an ipod and have yet to set up podcasts.

6. If you could only knit with 1 color for the rest of your life, what color would that be?
Deep Purple

7. If you were far into a project and then noticed a mistake near the beginning what would you do?
Try to correct it if it is really noticable to “the public”.

8. Where is the most unsual spot you’ve ever knit?
Doctor’s office….while she was talking to me.

*keeping fingers crossed*

In other news:

Thanks Aunt Phyll for the great book!

I received an Amazon package yesterday and this book along with other great crochet books was in it. I truly admire Elisabeth’s work. She truly has a talent for this art form. I’m too thrilled to start my first one. Yay!

I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Knitting On

Posted in General at 10:50 pm by royalempress

Now that the pain is pretty much gone, I’ve been knitting up a storm and trying to complete my latest read, The Knitting Circle . I’m still working on my wrap from Fitted Knits but I had to start on the Ballband from Mason Dixon Knitting. Although it may not be my first choice for projects, I’ve always liked Sugar/Peaches and Cream. This project really gives it the chance to shine in all it’s glory. I like how it has the brick look to it. It makes it more appealing to knit to me because of the contrasting colors. On the next one, I will slip the first stich of every row or every other row and maybe add a border to it. I’m not totally pleased with the edges as they are now, but I’ll experiment on them. This is the first one but surely not the last.

I think I’ll have a Ballband K.A.L. with my knitting group at work. So far there are only 5 of us since one member left the company. I have yet to mention the group on the bulletin board but I will. Hopefully we’ll get a guy to show up who may be interested in more than just “meeting women” *sigh*. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Before I go, I would like to thank Jen for the beautiful gifts.

As you can see, I’m fascinated with Jen’s gift for Pysanky. The stitch markers are truly one of kind too! She has so many talents and she’s truly admirable. It was an honour being your secret pal Jen. Thank you for the beautiful gifts! Please keep in touch πŸ™‚

I better take myself to bed before my husband comes to get me. It’s a cool night after the storm so it’s time to snuggle πŸ˜‰

Good day.
