When life gives you lemons…

Posted in Needlework tagged , , at 10:03 am by royalempress

As you know I’ve been M.I.A. for a while. Things have been hectic around here. Between traveling for work, coming home to tornadoes and not sleeping and eating properly has got me going bonkers. Then there’s the knitting. My beloved needles and yarn have sat on the side of my bed just waiting for me to pick them up and click, click, click. I tried to finish the top of my vest yesterday but ended up falling asleep. Sigh.

Since I can’t seem to get a stitch in edge wise, I’ve decided to take the knitting with me to work and sit it next to my monitor as a friendly reminder….”KNIT ME IF YOU LOVE ME”. I only have the top and the ruffles on the sleeves to finish. On a good day, I could have that done in a couple of hours. Now it seems as though time is running through my fingers like sand. Ugh! I barely have time to style my hair farless knit a top. I think it’s the change in weather and many other situations in my life. I can’t say I’m depressed because I feel well emotionally. However, just thinking about how crazy things are is wearing me down. I MUST KNIT this weekend or else, I may just go postal!

On a lighter note, I’ve started drawing again. I still lack the zeal and the creative flow but I’m sure I’ll figure out how to get it back somehow. Over time, I will be back to my artsy fartsy self. ‘Til then, pray to the craft gods that I hang in there.

The witty knitter

Posted in General, Needlework at 8:23 pm by royalempress

One day I was minding my own business when a fellow employee walked up to me in the lunch room and sarcasticly said, “You look like an old lady sitting there knitting away….” At first, I wasn’t sure how to react. My first thoughts were to:

A) Calmly and wittingly say, “Knitting isn’t just for grandmas anymore” and continue knitting.
B) Give him a blank stare then suddenly stick him with a knitting needle.
C) Take it as a compliment since the generations before us have paved the way.

I opted for B without stabbing him since I knew the security office was around the corner. After a 5 second blank stare, I replied, “I see wisdom doesn’t come with age for everyone” and walked away. Normally, knitting keeps me calm and poised. That day, I wasn’t in the mood to be played with or made fun of. I guess it could have been worse if I opted for B in its entirety. Lucky him. What can I say, it was one of those days.

On a brighter note:

Thank you SP for the wonderful gifts. I have so much purple yarn now that I’m considering making a patchwork (knit) blanket 🙂 It will be so soft and cudlly. I can’t wait!

The Purple Wonder

Posted in Needlework at 8:53 pm by royalempress

For the Chinese New Year, my family and I went to Chinatown in Chicago. Hubby was kind enough to take me to Nina. I had to purchase something since the store was set up so nicely and the owner was very pleasant. Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Wool in Purple Club was the winner. I stared at it for a while and then it hit me… The One Skein Wonder with a few ideas from Glampyre’s Fitted Knits’ pattern, Two Tone Ribbed Shrug.

Click pics to get a better view 😉

I used Patton’s Brilliant in “Prettiest Plum” to give it a little sparkle. I’m so proud of myself (you can see that from the pictures). I even have bags under my eyes to show that I was determined to finish it so I could wear it on my trip to NYC last weekend. Oh the purple, how it shines and glimmers and all that purddy stuff 🙂 Simply stunning! Now I have to get started on my bikini made from elastic and Paton’s Brilliant in gold and black. Woo woo!

Many Thanks

“Of all possessions, a friend is the most precious.” -Herodotus

This is a card I made for a co-worker who has been gracious enough to lend me her listening ear and for that, I’m thankful.

We all go through our rough patches and managed to come out stronger. While going through my own difficult times, I’ve realized there is nothing like good friends and family to have around. They keep me grounded when I have wreckless thoughts. They tell me right from wrong even though they know I am fully aware of what I should do. They let me know I am loved. They embrace me with positive vibes and warm hugs. Most of all, I can depend on them no matter what. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who is there for me in my time of need.

The Heat Is On

Posted in Needlework at 10:52 pm by royalempress

Warmer weather means revealing a little skin. Experienceing 70 + degree weather for the past few days has tempted me to knit/crochet springy garments (yes, I said “springy”).

I designed these saucy little numbers quite some time ago and never wrote a pattern for it. What was I thinking? I think I’ll have to design another one and write a pattern as I go this time. Reading about all the great knitters that have ventured out into the world of writing patterns makes me want to be adventurous too. Hopefully when things slow down after my trip to Europe, I can pump out a pattern or two.

 Speaking of a great knitter….

I read Wendy’s blog today and she made a very important point that I couldn’t have said better myself. I use to wonder if I should bother to blog anymore since it seems like not very many people are reading it. What’s the point? I use to spend quite a bit of time and effort on blogging but now, I don’t bother as much. In my mind, if no one is commenting, then no one is reading it. I know people have lives to tend to as do I, but I wonder how some of the other bloggers have so many comments. I guess the reality of it is, I’m just that boring. Sad little Empress *sigh*. I have to admit, I use to make it a point to blog for the pleasure of others. Now, I blog when I want, how I want and without stress. It’s not a daily chore for me since I have much more important things in my life to do like work, spend time with family and of course knit (eating and sleeping in between). Blogging will not over power me nor will comments be my sole purpose for blogging. If comments are left, they are greatly appreciated. If not, life goes on. Anywho….

Sorry I have to post and run but I have a good Indian movie (Lage Roho Munna Bhai) to watch that my husband said was highly rated. I love foreign movies so any suggestions you have, pass them on 🙂

Twinkle Twinkle

Posted in Needlework at 9:32 pm by royalempress

I am in love with this book:

The patterns are chunky but extremely stylish. I like all of the patterns except for one. That’s rare!! Normally, I would borrow a friends book, wait until someone is kind enough to purchase it for me from my Wish List or borrow it from the library but this one is a keeper!!! Wenlan Chia’s designs are timeless. You can check out here collection Wenlan Chia.

I like chunky since I barely have time to comb my hair farless knit. I hope I can turn one of these patterns out by my birthday in April. I’ll be going back home to NYC and I need something fun that screams me 🙂

Now only if I can finish the rest of this stuff *sigh*.

My loving husband was so kind to send a bouquet of flowers to my job. I arranged them and smelled them and then I sat back and devoured the chocolates that came with them lol! I couldn’t have asked for a better hubby 🙂 Thanks sweet heart xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo.

Happy Valentines to you and yours ❤

Mission Impossible?

Posted in Needlework at 9:16 pm by royalempress

Will and determination drives me to finish these never ending projects. So far I’m making headway with this little number for my cousin:

It can be found at http://www.lionbrand.com/. It’s quick and painless… just how I like my patterns 😉

As for the never ending baby sweater, this is what it looks like so far (click thumbnails):

I had the brilliant idea of crocheting the bands and collar instead of picking up stitches. It has a nice clean edge and the stand up collar is fabulous! I’m sure my friend’s little one will make it look even more stylish. She is too cute 🙂

I still can’t figure out how knitters are finishing projects in a matter of hours, sometimes days and here I am struggling to finish a mere baby sweater. Geez! Lately my schedule only allows me to give a few measly minutes…ok ok maybe an hour or two to knitting. Only if there were more hours in a day or maybe I’ll become a stay-at-home knitter. Yeah…like my husband is going for that. I guess I’ll be able to complete things when I retire. Man, that’s a loooooooooooong time from now *sigh*.

From the looks of my heavy stash, I need to find some quiet time to post on Ebay.

Out of control I tell you!! So who wants to take some off my hands? See something you like? Hmmmm? 😉 I think sometime this weekend for sure but I can’t make any promises.

Maybe I’ll See you Sunday ❤

Happy New Year everyone although I am late. Nonetheless, it will be happy damn it!!! First I have to start by getting rid of any negativity in my life. That means axing people from the social circle, stop making excuses as to why I shouldn’t be doing all the things I want to do in life (especially while I’m young) and last but not least, finishing all the undone projects that are staring at me, and calling, begging to be finished. *sigh*. There is never enough time to do all that I want to do. My weekly schedule is full and it still seems like I haven’t done much by the end of the week.

Mon & Wed- gym

Tues- knitting group which is more like the talking group. I really need to focus around all the food and great knits.

Thurs- sessions w/ trainer

Fri- Tennis Club

Sat & Sun- Family time. I really do try to knit while doing this but for some reason it seems like mission impossible.

Note: This schedule does not include 40 hours of work.

Prime example, I started working on a baby sweater for a co-work 1 month before she had the baby and now the baby is 6 monhts. The size I am knitting is “up to 6 mos”. This means the child has pretty much outgrown it. WTH? How is it physically possible for some of the knitting bloggers to pump out all these great knits? And I don’t mean a little skull cap here and a booties there. I mean a full size man’s sweater, numerous articles of kids clothes and of course a beautiful, intricate sweater made w/ sock yarn for themselves. Someone tell me how I can acquire such powers. I will forever be grateful!

Moving right along….

Aside from the “FBS” (forever baby sweater), I am knitting….attempting to knit a scarf for my mom who lives in a state where right now it is 60-70 degreesbut it can drop at any given time, a sweater for that special someone *cheese*, and a bolero for myself which I am so close to finishing that I can taste it. Not to mention my stash has grown so destashing was pointless. I only received one response on the yarn listed below. I take that as it wasn’t nice enough. Soooo, just for you fellow snobs (even if you don’t want to admit it), I will be posting the really good stuff on Ebay. That’s right, tell all your friends. It’s going to be spectacular! Well, at least it looks spectacular in my yarn closet. You read it right, a yarn closet lol!

Here is a special thanks to my Secret Pal who spoiled me to no end.

I absolutely love everything in the package including the knitted stocking. That made me feel extra special! I will post a pic as soon as I feel better. I feel kinda crappy now so I’m not in the mood to mess with the tech stuff. As if posting a pic is that hard, but yes I fell that crappy *sob*

Gotta go. It’s time to snuggle up under the covers. I need that temporary fix of comfort. I’ll tell you all about my fun in NYC for the holidays when I feel more peppy.

In the meantime, in between time tell me…

How do you do it?

Side note:

Michelle, if you’re out there, the Patons Grace and the Lion Brand Ribbon is still available. Please contact me at empress00 at gmail dot com.

I was starting to wonder when Knitty was going to post their winter edition. I’ve already decided to make this as an after Christmas gift

I loooove the colorway but that’s the magic of Noro.

Ok, gotta run. I’m going to see Blood Diamond with the hubby.

Don’t forget, YARN 4 SALE below 🙂

Until next time…
