Jumping for joy!

Posted in Needlework at 1:21 am by royalempress

I was toooo thrilled to come home to a box filled with things that made a bad day turn into a most excellent, magnificent, sunshiny bright day! My SP9 was gracious enough to bless me with more goodies than I ever expected.

I was just thinking I could use a knitting journal. I need to keep track of all the goodies I’m making. I especially like the E. Zimmerman book, The Opinionated Knitter. She was truly a brilliant knitter. I can’t wait to start the Tomten jacket. I think I got excited since BrooklynTweed mentioned how “bad ass” the child model looks in the jacket. I can seey my little one posing and showing how “bad” she can be. And the Addi’s are a god send! However, there’s no comparison to the speed of Addis!I’ve been knitting w/ Susan Bates and have no complaints so far. BUT WAIT….check out the socks she made for me *cheese grin*

Can you tell my feet were a little vain? Thank you soooooooo much SP9!!!!

On a side note….I just had to share this funny pic with you.

Today we had a contest for the best costume at work. My friend Steph and I decided to go for something a bit scandalous. She’s a pregnant nun whose guardian angel is SHOCKED lol! I thought it was very unique. I hope we win a paid day off so we can repent!

*Keeping fingers crossed (no pun intended 🙂 )*

In action

Posted in Needlework at 7:50 pm by royalempress

Hot Lava is looking good so far. I have to say, the sleeve is very long but that is ok. I have decided to add some kind of very fancy ribbon at the cuffs and possibly around the neckline. I’ll tie the ribbon and turn back the cuff as seen in the pic above. I’m sure it’ll look fab either way.

So far, there are 3 other w.i.ps in progress. With all that’s going on, I’m starting to feel like the baby sweater will be complete by the time the baby is 10. Sheesh! Nonetheless, I keep on keepin’ on and eventually, I will churn out all the things I have set out to do by the end of the year…hopefully.

In other news….

I have to say I am very proud of my knitting group (Hooks & Needles). We are working on making scarves for those who are in need of items to keep warm this winter. You can read an article about us HERE. I am proud to be part of such a giving, caring and knowledgable group. I look forward to leaving my stressful work day behind to sit and knit with these lovely ladies 🙂

Anywhoo….many thanks to my hunny for updating my site. Lookin’ good!

Next up?

Posted in Needlework at 11:46 pm by royalempress

Lately, I’ve been exploring ways to spend money and still be able to knit with fairly decent yarn. My last splurge was on Atacama. It was such a beautiful yarn and it matches a pair of shoes I have perfectly, so I had to take it home…..

To be with it’s new family 🙂

Now I’m looking for a pattern that will make it shine in all its glory. Here’s what I thought of so far:

*

Bad Penny

by the fabulous Glaympyre(a long sleeve version possibly)

*

Minisweater

(long sleeve version)

*

Nothin’ But A Shirt

(a striped version)

For some reason, I hear the “shirt” calling me. I’ll figure it out by the time I finish my Hot Lava. Hopefully, that will be soon.

My last purchase was the nummy nummy SWS in natural plum. Every time I get a coupon for Michaels, I pick up a skein. Pick up yarn without having a pattern is nice for the stash but harmful to the pockets! I also got luck with the so soft Baby Alpaca in a warm blue. I see a baby sweater for it, but I would hate to make it and have someone throw it in the washing machine. Ooops? What do you mean OOOOOPS?? So that idea is out. Maybe a vest or something. I only have 2 skeins which is a total of 250 yards. Maybe a pair of socks. Perfect to warm up my ice cold toes!

Ok ok. It’s time to watch 24 with the hubby. Have a good day/night/weekend.

Ciao.

SP9 Questionnaire

Posted in Needlework at 1:52 pm by royalempress

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

There are so many but here are a few: Malabrigo, Noro (my true loves), Cascade, Brown Sheep (Cotton Fleece & Lamb’s Pride) and various types of cotton. Natural fibers mainly. Acrylic use to be a bad word but since I’ve used Caron’s Simply Soft, I’m wiling to make it the ONLY exception to the rule.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
At the moment my straights are in a vase, my circs are in a needle case and my hooks are in a case as well.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I’ve been knitting for 5 years and I’m still an intermediate knitter *sigh*.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

5. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products, etc.)

I LOVE Fig and Amber the most. Any clean scents will do nicely too:)

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?

I love milk chocolate but it doesn’t look good on the scale 😦

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?

I just started making cards which is becoming addictive too. I haven’t learned how to spin yet but I hope to in the near future.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

I listen to anything I can move to. I especially like, reggae, indian music, japanese music and hip hop on occasion. My comp plays all media types.

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?

My favorite colors are purples and black but I do love earth tones as well.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

If you count my 20 fish as pets then yes lol. I live with my husband and a 5yr old princess 😀

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?

No ponchos, everything else, yes.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Baby sweaters because they’re painless, scarves from scraps for charity and women sweaters.

13. What are you knitting right now?

Hot Lava, a baby sweater and Leo.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?

Yes please 🙂

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

Aluminun or plastic circs will do nicely.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?

I own both.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?

2 yr old socks (more like a cuff).

18. What is your favorite holiday?

Thanksgiving. Mmmmmm…food 🙂

19. Is there anything that you collect?

Crowns of all sorts.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

Check the list (click the link on question #4).

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?

To knit socks on 2 circs. I’m learning the magic loop method so I don’t know if I need to but I still want to.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?

Slowly but surely I’m getting there.

23. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)

April 17th.

Hot Pink Ruby

Posted in Needlework at 10:22 pm by royalempress

Introducing [Hot Pink]

Ruby

She is made from a very inexpensive Walmart brand yarn called “NoBo” (No Boundaries) in hot pink. She’s much hotter in person; the pictures don’t do justice to the color (talking to mom on the cell and taking pics at the same time takes skill). While everyone was going ga ga and stir crazy over Lion Brand’s Cotton Ease, I opted for the cheap stuff. It was only a $1 a skein so I thought “Why the heck not?” Little did I know, it would pull at the slightest touch. Eeeeew! God help me if I had a snagged nail or dry skin. I almost felt like I had to knit it with surgical gloves on! What the heck did I expect for a buck? Nonetheless, it came out great. I’ll have to handwash it (with gloves on) and make sure that no one touches me while I’m wearing it. Crazy huh?

FYI: The project below, Sweet T #3, has been frogged so the fabulous Ruby (close up shot here) could be made.

I must enjoy getting myself into impossible missions when it comes to projects. So far, I’m knitting a baby sweater for a former co-worker, charity scarves, my hubby’s sweater that is suppose to be a secret (which I’m sure it will remain that way since he doesn’t read this blog) and Hot Lava with the Knit-A-Long group. For some reason, I seem to think that I need to have more than 4 projects going at one time. If I don’t, I’ll easily get bored with just one or two. Why is that? So far, I’ve been doing well with finishing. I’m so determined to knit down my current stash that it’s becoming obsessive. To be brutally honesty, I just want to knit it so I can make room for new and improved yarns.

As my mom would say….I need Jesus.

Work has been hectic so I haven’t had time to put together the flower swap. I think I’ll save it for the new year after things quiet down. No worries, I’ll still post my stash that I would like to share with the world by next month. Consider it a Thanksgiving special 😉
