So many projects, so little time

Posted in Needlework at 10:41 pm by royalempress

I’ve officially decided to finish my WIP even if it kills me. Ok, not literally but you know what I mean. I have a sweater for a special love one, a little cardigan for beautiful baby, a blanket for pretty girl and a shawl/scarf for moi. Once I’m done with at least 2 of these projects, I will start on this

I’m not a big fan of Lion Brand. However, Knit.1 has been coming out with a few cute designs that I’m not sure if I want to use my “good yarn” on. So I went to Hancock Fabrics and picked up 7 skeins of Wool Ease in Green at $1.61 a skein. Not a bad deal. It sure looks good in the picture so I’ll give it a try at that price. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Attention crafty viewers…

I’m cooking up a flower exchange. I would like any crafty people who actually read this blog to join and share in the joy of exchanging. Also, I will be giving away prizes to 3 participant’s who’s names I will draw at random from all the exchange entries. I’ll post the prizes soon. Have questions? Contact me at
empress@nyckid.com. Believe me, you’ll be interested 🙂

Hot Girl Knitting & Crocheting

Posted in Needlework at 10:26 pm by royalempress

For a while now I’ve been wanting to try something different and a little out of the norm. There is this fabulous site which has the cutest lingerie patterns but I was in search of something more…

And then I came across this provocative book called Sexy Little Knits and there it was…

Isn’t it lovely? It’s called the Cozy Sleeper. It kinda reminds me of the ol’ school Playboy Bunny outfits minus the tale and ears. I have a few skeins of angora waiting to be knitted. It’s definitely worth my time and effort to sit down and focus on knitting a hot piece just for me!

Now we all know that I’m not a skinny chick so there will be serious modifications to these patterns! The author, Ashley.Paige obviously didn’t think about B,C,DD cups and “junk in the trunk” and all the extra curves so I’ll have to do it for her lol!

Speaking of hot girl knitting and crocheting… I read an article in W magazine on the original hot girls (at least their ideas are), who are 60 and up.

That’s right ladies, grandma can put a few hot things together with her needles. I was in awe when I read about the European designers who employ a “far-flung network of grannies.” Look at what they can do.

I can see myself being one of these types of 60 year old knitters…daring to be different.

Anyway ladies and gents, I’m off to bed so have a great day or night.

SP 8 Questionarre

Posted in Needlework at 12:43 pm by royalempress

Since I actually sat here and typed out the questions for SP 8 and for some odd reason, it didn’t submit, I will have to use the Q&A from SP7. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to e-mail me or leave a note. Thanks!!

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand?
Although I consider myself a border line “yarn snob”, I have come to know and love inexpensive fibers like the infamous acrylic. I like to work with Caron’s Simply Soft for blankets. Otherwise, I love the look and feel of natural & high quality fibers.

2. Do you spin? Crochet?
I love to crochet (along with knitting of course). I hope to learn how to spin in the near future.

3. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
Right now, I have two pencil holders that are big enough to hold my straight needles and circulars in their original packaging.

4. How long have you been knitting? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I am an intermediate knitter that has been knitting for 4 1/2 years now.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Amazon Wishlist here

6. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)

I absolutely looooove fig and sandalwood scents. I’m not really a fruity scent kind of girl.

7. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?

I have a sweet tooth that could eventually be deadly LOL! I like chocolate but I really need to cut down. I guess I would rather it fruit candies which are probably not that much better.

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
My aunt just bought me a sewing table and my mom bought a sewing machine so I guess my new hobby will be sewing. I really like working with felt. I’ve come across Japanese designs using felt that are amazing.

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I like any kind of music I can relate or dance to so suprise me 🙂 My computer can handle just about any media format.

I love all colors but the families that stand out the most are red and blues.

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I live with my husband, my daughter and about 12 fish 🙂

12. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
I were all of the above except for ponchos.

I’m not the biggest fan of acrylic..
