FFO (Fab Finished Object)!

Posted in Needlework at 10:50 pm by royalempress

I actually managed to finally finish this poor thing. I had it coped up in the closet staring at me everytime I went to reach for a different project or some other yarn. Well, here she is *drum roll*….

The sleeves are split and roll since it’s st st. I’m going to add buttons for added flare. Sorry, the bottom was cut off…it was just a roll bottom (st st). However, I am considering adding a ribbed bottom to it with the same color yarn that I used for the roll neck. It’s a lovely alpaca yarn called Glimmer by America’s Alpaca. I love the way it shimmers!

Here’s a close up

The back:

I’m still working on another sweater for someone very special. I can’t say who because they may be reading this ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll keep you posted on the finished project.

First day of spring…

Posted in Needlework at 4:27 pm by royalempress

And this is what it looks like

Yes, Nebraska is having a snow called snow “storm” as I am typing this. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr! Blustering (sp) winds make it feel 10 times colder than what it is. This is a perfect day to sit and knit this (click on pic for pattern):

Isn’t it lovely? I think it has an ethnic feel to it for some reason. Maybe it’s the color way. I can’t wait until it’s finished! It may take a while since I’m in the middle of working on a O.S.W. for a friend who made this fabulous top for me

She is my inspiration to continue learning how to sew! Speaking of which, I finally got my sewing table and machine set up in my basement. All I need is a good “daylight” lamp. Any suggestions?

Until next time….Ciao!

A Purple Crochet Fix

Posted in Needlework at 11:38 pm by royalempress

First, I have to say thanks to my SP7 who gave me these wonderful gifts:

This pic is looooong overdue! I was just saying that I have 0 purple in my wardrobe and that I would love to knit something in that color. I think she’s a mind reader ๐Ÿ˜‰

Speaking of purple…I’ve been craving to crochet (ooooh, I have to write that down). I found a pattern or two but I think this sweater is adorable:

I think it would look great in violet! I haven’t found the pattern yet, but believe me, I’m looking.

That one is cute, but this one takes the cake!

It only retails for $174 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I think I’ll have to stare it and figure it out because I’m surely not paying $174 for it. Pardon her cheapness LOL!

In other news…

I’ve been Book Tagged by the fabulous 2sticksandstring. So here goes…

1. Name five four of your favorite books.
a-Things Fall Apart – Chinua Achebe
b- Good in Bed – Jennifer Weiner
c- A Heartbreaking Tale of Staggering Genius – Dave Eggers
d- Black Indians – William Katz
e- I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou

2. What was the last book(s) you bought (or brought home from the library)?

Sewing for Dummies (bought)
Good In Bed (swapped)
The Davinici Code (borrowed)

3. What were the last books you read?

Loop D Loop -Teva Durham
Zen and The Art of Knitting – Bernadette Murphy

4. List 5 books that have been particularly meaningful to you.
a- A Heart Breaking Tale of Staggering Genius: I connected with the main character when talked about his family situation and how he interacted with his siblings. A very good read if you like tragic comedy.
b- Things Fall Apart: The story of seperation and religion of an African tribe really hit home for me.
c- Malcolm X: Just the story alone touched me since I come from a muslim background. It’s unfortunate that we don’t have such well spoken and determined leaders such as the Malcolm.
d- The Invisible Man- Although times have changed, some people are still the same.
e- Memoirs of A Geisha- I truly enjoyed reading about a woman who managed to turn a situation around to work in her favor. The movie does no justice to the book!

5. Name a book you’ve been dying to read but just haven’t gotten around to it.
It’s Happy Bunny. Life. Get one. by Jim Benton: My friend gave me this book and she said it was hilarious. I’ll definitely get around to reading it very soon!

6. Tag any number of people and have them fill this quiz out on their own.

Have a good day/night!
