On the fritz

Posted in Needlework at 10:46 pm by royalempress

Firs things first:

Self Portrait

I love my toes *cheese grin*.

Anyway… My computer is on the fritz again. I had a few choice words to follow, but I think I’m taking it pretty well considering that I can’t look at my book marks, can’t upload images or print from my computer. In the meantime, I have to keep running downstairs to the basement to use my husband’s comp/server. I guess I’ll live until it gets fixed. I really wanted to post a better picture of a piece of my knitting against a body part, but I can’t get it to upload *sigh*. I’ll just have to save it for later.

In other news… I sent out a package to my secret pal. I hope she likes the items!! I’m too thrilled to be part of yet another SP. It seems like the last one just ended.! Man, is time flying or what?? I barely have time for myself these days, but I have to make time to get some of these gifts finished for the holidays. I’ve also managed to arrange a swap with two other crafty ladies. Oh man, are my fingers going to be busy! I’ll be sure to post the progress of my work! Until then, have a good weekend!

Love keeping secrets!

I was too thrilled today to get a letter from the host of SP 6. I was late in signing up but she managed to set me with someone. So it’s back to shopping for my SP. Wooo hoooo! I’ve already have a few ideas in mind and I think I’ll be sending something out this week. As for the person that’s my SP, here’s some info for ya:

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?

I was born a yarn snob. However, I have come to humble my preferences when it comes to beautiful, inexpensive yarn such as Lion Brand’s Incredible and I looove Caron’s Simply Soft and Bliss.

2. Do you spin? Crochet?

No, and yes.

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)

4. How long have you been knitting?

4 years.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

I sure do! Click here.

6. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)

I like anything that has a light, fresh scent to it. I’m not a fruity kind of girl. I’m more of the flowery, woodsy scents type.

7. Do you have a sweet tooth?

I do, but I shouldn’t so don’t encourage me πŸ˜€

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?

Photography. Things at random…I’m a novice.

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

Suprise me. I may suprise you and like it!! I listen to literally anything I can move to.

10. What’s your favorite color? Or–do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can’t stand?

Earth tones, cool blues and purples.

12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)

I’m sure I’m not the first to say but, I’d like to open a yarn/book store. I would also like to teach young girls how to knit (and guys too if they’re willing).

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?

This will take up most of the page but I’ll try to keep it short: Noro (oh Noro…I love you LOL!), Rowan, Crystal Palace, Gedifra for the funky stuff, Koigu, Lamb’s Pride Brown Sheep, Trendsetter, Grignasco and believe it or not Lion Brand’s Moonlight, Incredible and Caron’s Bliss (yummy yummy). Pretty much anything soft..but no fuzzy, furry stuff please.

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

Itchy acylics and wools. Blah!

15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?

Shawls and sweaters.

16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Felted bags and baby clothes. Usually they’re quick and painless.

17. What are you knitting right now?

A poncho (who knew?), a blanket and a sweater.

18. What do you think about ponchos?

They can have an out dated look or they can be elegant. It really depends on the style. Personally, I don’t own any, but I’m making a couture looking poncho now πŸ˜€

19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?

Usually circs are portable so I tend to use them a lot. I like fancy straight needles. I’m thinking about getting a glass pair from ebay.

20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

Metal like Addi Turbo’s or Susan Bates Silvalume/Silverado.

21. Are you a sock knitter?

I will officially finish the first pair I’ve started eventually, then I can officially say yes.

22. How did you learn to knit?

From a friend of the family.

23. How old is your oldest UFO?

2 yrs old.

24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?

Aeon Flux (animated character) because she is beautiful, half naked but dangerous lol!

25. What is your favorite holiday?

New Years.

26. Is there anything that you collect?

Recently I’ve been in to really fancy handmade knitting needles, cool stitch markers and knitting figurines.

27. What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

None, but I would love one to Vogue Knitting.

28. Any books out there you are dying to get your hands on?

Yeah, they’re on my Amazon list.

29. Any patterns you have been coveting, but haven’t bought for one reason or another??

Charlotte’s Web from Koigu. I would love to make it for my Mom.

30. What are your foot measurements, and what kind of socks do you like?

I wear a size 6 and I love soft, warm socks!

I’m really looking forward to this!!

FYI: Lately I’ve been eye balling Berocco’s Foliage in Chinese Lantern and Gedifra’s Opulenz and Byzanz πŸ˜€ I hope this helps!

Calgon..take me away!

Eyes are the keys to the soul.

Today is a day when I NEED to knit. Not a want, but a need! It’s like that little pill you search for when you have a bad headache and the stress becomes unbearable. Today, I realized that I do not want to make a career as a stock broker, so I’m not motivated to study for the series 7 (and my practice test scores reflect my feelings). I’m sure this comes a disappointed to some, but who cares! It’s all about what makes me fell fulfilled after a hard day’s work. Yes money makes the world go round, but it doesn’t make you spiritually happy. I’m sure if everyone had the chance to make a career out of what they love, they’d do it. Right? I would love to be a recruiter and help people find jobs or run my own yarn/book store. Those are my goals. Everything else is irrelevant. I know, I know, this is getting deep. Anyway… that’s why I need to knit. It’s the one thing I do and get lost in it. It helps me to momentarily forget about what is going on (a glass of Baileys and milk wouldn’t hurt too). I digress for now.

I have a few things I’m working on. When I’m out of my funk, I’ll share the goods.

For the “body part” theme, I chose my head. I’m not sure if it’s really creative, but I love the picture πŸ˜€

Woooo Hooooo!

Posted in Needlework at 10:09 pm by royalempress

After all the anticipation, my skp didn’t let me down. Look what she sent me:

And it all came in this cute little bag:

I especially like the idea she had of dying the 100% merino wool from KnitPicks with kool aid. I’ve always wanted to try it. Now she’s given me a reason too. She also sent me two great books; The Shop On Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber and At Knit’s End by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Oh, and the the other sock yarn will make a great vest for my daughter and the purple yarn I can use for a trim on another project. THANKS!

Also, I’ve finally started the blanket for my daughter that has been haunting me at night (yes, I dream about colors for future projects lol).

So far, I’m drawn towards the second color scheme. I think it adds pizazz with the various colors. What do you think? I’ll post more pics as the progress comes along.

I’ve finally used my ball winder recently. Can you believe I’ve had it sitting in the closet and have yet to use it? It came in handy when I decided to rip a project that was frogged many moons ago.

Aaaaaah relief!

I can’t forget to mention the great pattern now available on Nik Knits called the Make Up. If you’re a girly girl like me, then it’s a must have. I have yet to find the right color for it, but as I said, I dream in color πŸ˜‰

Ok ladies and gents, I need your help (as Dora would say). I saw this painting in a model of a condo my husband and I just bought in Florida.

Can anyone tell me who the artist is and/or where I can find a print of it. I absolutely love it! If I can’t find the same one, something similar will do. Thanks for your help in advance.

Until next time….
