My love

Posted in Needlework at 8:18 pm by royalempress

If you didn’t know by know, I love to be crafty. Lately the craft of choice has been knit or crochet. One day I’ll be brave enough to quilt. For know, I’ll let my fingers weave the material. I’ve decided by the end of this summer, I will begin my wedding blanket. This blanket will be a wedding gift to my future husband next year *cheese grin*. To show him how much I love, care and cherish him, I’ve decided to wrap him in a token of my love. This blanket will be priceless once it’s made which means the materials used must be lovingly soft.

I know many of you have encountered wonderful yarns during the time you’ve been knitting or crocheting. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should use? How about a pattern? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

FYI: My poncho is coming along nicely! I’ve decided not to add black since the colors are light blue, light green, orange, and yellow. It’s kinda pastely (new word for ya lol). I’m not a big fan when it comes to pastels but so far, I like it! A pic will be posted shortly. As for the peach-n-pink poncho, there is a hold on this project since the TLC Lustre I ordered does not appear or feel like the same material I was using. I am VERY disappointed especially because the seller did not respond to my e-mail in regards to this matter. I’m going to send her a second e-mail. If I do not get a response, then I will not do business with her again farless recommend her to anyone else. I would really hate to do that! I’ll keep y’all posted.

Oh man, Banana Republic almost got my money. They feature this poncho on their site:

This is making me think about throwing in a little black into my poncho. I’ll have pictures to show the progress thus far. Until then….

Today was a good day

Posted in Needlework at 11:27 pm by royalempress

Today I went to the yarn store that my manager told me about. I was in awe when I saw how big it was and the amount of wonderful yarn they had in stock. The store is only 6 months old, and it already has recognition in Omaha. The employees/owners are very nice and helpful. The plush couches and tv also make it very cozy. I think I’ve finally found a place to sit and knit. I’m thrilled about that! I checked out a few other places but they’re not as knitter friendly when it comes to just relaxing and knitting after buying their yarn. I’m very pleased with String of Purls. I will post their website when it’s up and running. I must pass on the good word!

Aside from being totally happy about my lys, I ate bbq’ed food for the first time in quite a while. My hunny did a wonderful job *applause* at making shishkebobs (sp) or “bobs” as my hunny’s friend’s wife calls them. We ate and talked and laughed and then everyone went home. It was a nice relaxing evening. The weather here was in the mid 80’s; perfect for bbq’ing. I look forward to the summer. As long as I have a bottle of water and a cool breeze, I’m A-OK!

FYI: My comments are now working so I’m back in business. Feel free to leave a good word πŸ˜€

I first came up with this brilliant idea at my job. Let me explain…. a certain famous brand has a stripped poncho and a halter top that is too cute!

So I thought to myself, “That great cotton sock yarn would make a nice poncho and halter top.” So the quest began. I checked a few online stores, then my local yarn stores. I found it for $14.99 which at first seemed like a bit much. Then again, it is for 439yds so it’s not too bad. In comparison to the famous brand, the cost is great! Not to mention the pure satisfaction of saying “I made it” always helps πŸ˜€ I’m off to NYC to visit my family and take care of some graduation business so I’ll have plenty of time off from work to knit. I can’t wait to see how it’ll turn out!

I’m still working on my peach-n-pink poncho. Although I can crochet pretty fast, I simply don’t have the time. I get home from work, eat with my family, watch a little tv, then I’m off to bed. I do this 5 days out of the week. Now I’m on a mission to finish since I have the discontinued TLC Lustre Fuchsia. I’ve made a vow to at least take an hour out of each day to get it done. Wish me luck! Here’s my progress thus far:

I’ll have the first half done by next week and the second half done by the end of the following week. I could be done sooner, but with work and all….a crafter needs her rest! I’ll be sure to post more pics with the progress!!

And another one

Thanks secret pal for adding more chocolate to my life. There’s nothing like knitting or crocheting and eating chocolate at the same time. It definitly keeps me going! And thanks for the note cards and the jewel magnets. I will use them on my refridgerator to make it look spiffy πŸ˜€

Today was an interesting one. I ran all my errands and enjoyed the pleasures of a wonderful pedicure that was cheaper than I thought! My pedicurist did such a wonderful job that I had to tip him well. I also found a hobby/craft store next to Target. I didn’t have enough time to go in but I will be sure to do so pretty soon. I called my manager today to ask if I can work extra hours this week and she approved. She also told me about a new yarn store that opened not too far from my house. How nice was that! She’s pretty cool so far πŸ™‚ Although I’ve been feeling up and down today, I must say that it has been an ok day thus far. It’s not over yet so we’ll see what happens. For now, I’m going to finish my peach-n-pink poncho since the yarn from Ms. Gwynn at the Individual Crochet Afghan Nest has arrived (*waves* Thanks!). Hopefully next time I’ll have pics for ya.

The Chase

Posted in Needlework at 11:57 pm by royalempress

Ok, I’ve been on a wild hunt searching for Coats & Clark’s TLC Lustre in Fuchsia. Then I find out that it’s a discontinued color. AAAAARRRRGGGHHH!! Just my luck! I need at least 2 more skeins to finish crocheting my “peach-n-pink” that I started about a month ago now. I sent out an e-mail to NYC’s Stitch n Bitch members. Luckily one very nice lady sent me one of her skeins all the way from NYC to Omaha (Nebraska). Then I found another wonderful site, Individual Crochet Afghan Nest, that has 10 skeins of Fuchsia. What a life saver Elaine (the owner) is! I’ll start knitting anonther poncho with Regia’s Cotton Color until the TLC Lustre gets here. I was starting to get a little worried. I was even starting to panic that I won’t be able to finish crocheting my poncho. But lo and behold, the net saved me once again!!! After this, I’m going start a yarn diet. It’s official as of June 1st. This means I have to work extra hours and buy as much as possible to add to the stash since I won’t be buying for 6 months. That’s right, you heard me 6 months. My hunny will be proud of me if I can actually do it LOL! First, I have to get a pair of these colorful needles from ebay. The colors are so purrrrrrrrrrdy!!! They will help to inspire me as I knit πŸ™‚

BTW: I’m having problems uploading pics. When I figure out how to get my photo gallery to work for me, I will show you many pretty things πŸ˜€ Until then….
